SAARC Summit Ends With 20-point Declaration

November 13, 2011: the 17th SAARC Summit held in Addu City of the Maldives has ended on Friday, November 12, 2011 with a 20-point Addu Declaration that has the provisions for ending the differences, creating better understanding and promoting cooperation and effective linkages among the member countries of the region

Following the Summit, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the SAARC Member States have signed off four regional deals such as SAARC Agreement on Rapid Response to Natural Disasters, SAARC Seed Bank Agreement, SAARC Agreement on Multilateral Arrangement on Recognition of Conformity Assessment and SAARC Agreement on Implementation of Regional Standards.

The Summit also has accepted the plea of Nepal for holding the 18th SAARC Summit.

On behalf of all Heads of States or Governments of SAARC Member States, Nepalese Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has delivered a vote of thanks at the end of the Summit. He has appreciated the government and people of the Maldives for the excellent arrangements made for the SAARC Summit and for the warm hospitality extended to all the participants in the Summit. He also thanked Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley: outgoing Chairman of SAARC for his excellent performances during the term of the chairman of the SAARC.
