Nepal Sets UP International Peace Award

May 26, 2010: under-secretary to Ministry of Federal Affairs (MoFA) Rishikesh Niroula has said that the Government of Nepal is all set to install a peace award called ‘Gautam Buddha International Peace Award’ (GBIPA) with the award money of US$ 50,000 on the occasion of the 2,554th Buddha Jayanti celebration on May 27, 2010 according to the news in ‘The Himalayan Times’.
Under-secretary to the MoFA Rishikesh Niroula has said that the decision on setting up the award would be announced on the day of Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini on May 27, 2010, and the first recipient would be declared on Buddha Jayanti in 2011 and the award would be given on the very day. The government has decided to set up the GBIPA in 2002 but the unfavorable political situation has caused delay in declaring it.
