Achieve My Goal of Peace In Nepal

Issue 42, October 18, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On October 15, 2009, addressing the function of unwrapping the statues of BP Koirala and Nona Koirala in his hometown Biratnager, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the Nepali Congress has initiated the peace process negotiating with the Maoists in the past and would complete the peace process ending the current political deadlock. He has also said that the Nepali Congress leadership would not be distracted by a trifle matter and would move forward for achieving the goal of peace in Nepal.

Concerning the heated debate over the promotion of his daughter Sujata Koirala at the central committee meeting, he did not like to mention anything. The central committee members of the Nepali Congress have been criticizing Girija Koirala for putting pressure on the Prime Minister to promote his daughter Sujata Koirla to Deputy Prime Minister without the decision of the central committee and the parliamentary party on this matter, and have even decided to ask Girija Koirala for explanations of this matter.

However, Girija Koirala has said that he has been encouraged by the enthusiastic welcome he has received from the cadres. Probably, he was demoralized by the disapproval of his daughter’s elevation to the Deputy Prime Minister shown in the central committee meeting held on October 14, 2009.
