Different Political Versions Of Nepalese Leaders

Issue 51, December 20, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 15, 2009, issuing a statement, the Nepali Congress (NC) has said that declaring one autonomous republic after another, the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) has been going against the Constituent Assembly, the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, and is attempting to invite conflict; so, the declaration of autonomous is irresponsible, contradictory and risky act of the UCPN-Maoist.

The Maoist leaders have been saying that they have been declaring autonomous republics to build up a pressure on the leaders of NC and CPN-UML for completing the writing of a new constitution within the deadline and for correcting the unconstitutional action of the President, and also have been charging the leaders of the NC and CPN-UML of trying to impose a presidential rule on any pretext.

On December 15, 2009, in an interview to Abashesh Swami of Indian newspaper Panjabkeshari, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that Maoists are for making the Constituent Assembly a failure; and attempting to capture the state; and the Prime Minister doubted the writing of a new constitution on time.

At the same time, speaking at the function of releasing a book titled ‘Sikkim’s Story and Nepal’s Anguishes’ written by Mukunda Karki, one of the Vice-chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya ‘Kiran’ has said that drafting of a new constitution and preservation of national sovereignty are more crucial than anything at this time; if the political leaders continue to blame each other rather than completing the writing of a new constitution then the country might disappear as Sikkim did in the past.
