Demanding Setting Up A Tharu Museum In Surkhet

January 4, 2014: at the rally of Tharus in Patalganga of Latikoili-6 of the Surkhet district, Tharus demanded the government setting up a Tharu museum in Surkhet, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

 

Tharus said that the museum was necessary to preserve the indigenous culture, handicraft, ornaments, customs and traditions of the Tharu community that has been on the verge of extinction.

 

Speaking at the rally, Vice-chair of Tharu Kalyankari Sabha Man Bahadur Chaudhary said a Tharu temple of Thanwa must also be constructed along with the Tharu museum.

 

Tharu Literati Man Bahadur Panna said that a Tharu museum would make an important contribution to the tourism promotion in the district.

 

Central member of Tharu Democratic Association Krishna Bahadur Tharu said that the VDC, DDC and the town development committee should support the demands of the Surkheti Tharus for setting up a museum.

 

More than 200 Tharus from Uttarganga and Latikoili VDCs were at the rally that concluded with the formation of the Surkhet district ad hoc committee of the Tharu Guruwa and Baidhya Association to preserve the Tharu Guruwa and Tharu Baidhya system of the Tharu community.
