Hearing On Corruption Case Filed Against NC Leader Joshi

Issue 25, June 17, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 11, 2012: a bench of Chief Judge of Special Court Gauri Bahadur Karki and members Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise has started off hearing on the corruption case filed by the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against former Minister and leader of NC Govind Raj Joshi today, nepalnews.com reports

In January 2007, the Special Court had acquitted Nepali Congress leaders Govinda Raj Joshi and Khum Bahadur Khadka, and the leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Rabindra Nath Sharma of the corruption charges based on the technicalities of the cases filed by the CIAA. Allegedly it was done after the then-chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal met these guys. It was just before the promulgation of the Interim Legislature.

Then, CIAA filed an appeal at the Supreme Court of Nepal for holding rehearing on the case, as the acquittal of the allegedly corrupt minister was done on a technical ground. The Supreme Court of Nepal ordered the Special Court to open the case three months ago.
