April 18, 2010: speaking to the assembly of the Darai Liberation Front affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist at Khanna Garment in the Lalitpur District on April 17, 2010, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that his party will topple the current government through the street movement, as this government has not been able to follow the people’s aspirations.
At the same time, speaking at the program held by the National University Teachers’ Association affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist to exchange New Year greetings in Patan on April 17, 2010, Prachanda has said that since the 12-point understanding reached with the Seven Party Alliance, the Maoists and the then President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala have agreed on the consensus politics until the completion of promulgation of a new constitution; however, leaders of the NC and CPN-UML have broken up that understanding causing the current political deadlock; no matter how long the term of the Constituent Assembly is extended a new constitution will not be in place without the consensus politics; they will be accountable to the failure of not promulgating a new constitution on schedule. He has also said that the current government has been helping the regressive elements.
Speaking at a press meet held by Nepal Press Union in Nepalgunj, Acting President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala has said that the Maoists will be responsible for not promulgating a new constitution on time, as they have not following the past agreements. He has also said that his party will continue to support the current government, as to pull down the current government means turning over power to the Maoists. He has also said that the integration of the Maoist combatants will be following the government’s terms and he is not in anyway ready to accept the Maoists’ terms for that matter.
