Preliminary Results Of Population Census Of 2011

Issue 40, October 2, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September: the department of statistics has made public the preliminary results of the population census of 2011 and has stated the population growth rate has been 1.40% and the total population has reached 26.62 million in 2011. The result is highly suspicious. It is hard to believe that the population growth has been so low.

The census method has many flaws. The department of statistics has attempted to collect many informations but the enumerators are confused with the information they need to collect. In addition, the census form does not have a slot that would be for the people practicing both Hinduism and Buddhism. Nepal is the country, where most of the people practice both Hinduism and Buddhism but Nepalis have to say either you are a Buddhist or a Hindus to the enumerators.

In the rural areas many people have complained that the enumerators have not visited their areas for the census. In the past also, many people have complained that enumerators have not visited the areas where they have to collect information on the population. However, we wish that the population date really have reflected the truth.
