Twelve Days To Elections In Nepal

November 7, 2013: only 12 days are to go before holding the elections to a new CA on November 19, 2013.
In a statement released on behalf of the international community yesterday, the coordinator of the international community in Kathmandu: the UN office in Nepal has said that disrupting the elections goes against the Nepalese law; so it has urged the election-opposing parties not to do anything that goes against the law, according to the Radio Nepal news of today morning.
The CPN-Maoist is reviewing its declared program on shutting down Nepal from November 11 to 20, 2013 to disrupt the elections. Leaders of the CPN-Maoist have come to the conclusion that shutting down Nepal would surely trouble to common folks; so, they are looking for an alternative to peacefully oppose the elections.
The Election Commission has annulled the names of 332 candidates submitted by different political parties for the proportional representation in a new CA, according to the news in the ‘gorkhaaptra’ of today. The EC declared their candidacy invalid as they involved in the criminal activities. They include Balkrishna Dungel and Usha Shah (Fakir) of the UCPN-Maoist, the ‘gorkhapatra’ news says.
The EC has invited the chief election commissioners, and commissioners of the member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and Japan, Thailand, and Australia, and also the members of government, and parliament of Japan, Australia, America, Britain, and the European Union to observe the elections on November 19, 2013, and the EC has been receiving the positive responses from them, the news in the ‘gorkhapatra’ of today quoted the Election Commissioner Dr Rambhakata BP Thakur.
Spokesperson for the CPN-Maoist Pampha Bhusal yesterday said that her party would not prevent the voters from casting the votes in the elections to a new CA on November 19. However, she warned of the 33-party alliance launching a strong protest from November 20 if the CA elections were to hold on November 19. She also said that her party boycotted the elections, as corrupt, criminals and characterless people were candidates in the upcoming CA elections, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
Speaking at an election rally at Shrinagar VDC in the southern belt of Humla district on November 2, 2013, UCPN-Maoist leader also former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai directed the party cadres and leaders to participate in the Constituent Assembly elections in a peaceful way, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
NC and CPN-UML cadres clashed in Khagenkot VDC-7, eastern part of Jajarkot district yesterday. Twenty-eight years old Nara Bahadur Khatri, an NC cadre of Khagenkot-7 was injured in a khukuri knife attack in the clash. CPN-UML cadre Dhana Bahadur Chadara allegedly attacked him. Following the attack, NC cadres of the Nepali Congress Khagenkot Village Unit and the Nepal Tarun Dal, the party's youth wing, took four CPN-UML cadres under their control and locked them at the NC cadre's house. Khagenkot is at the distance of two-hour walk from the nearest police station at Maide, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
