Industries In Birgunj-Pathlaiya Corridor Shut Down

Issue 33, August 18, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 12, 2013: the workers shut down thirteen industries along the Birgunj-Pathlaiya Industrial Corridor today demanding the minimum allowance of Rs 1,800 per month following the pay-scale rise of the State employees causing millions of rupees worth of loss to the industries, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.

Workers and industry owners had recently agreed on declaring the Birgunj-Pathlaiya Industrial Corridor free of shutdown but the workers have not honored the agreement.

Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Joint Trade Union Regional Coordination Committee have been holding to resolve the problems but they have not reached an agreement, yet.

The industry owners have been arguing that the government has increased basic salary not the Rs. 1,800 of allowance for all, as the workers have been demanding.   However, workers' unions have demanded Rs. 1,800 to be added to their salaries as allowance.
