By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On August 7, 2009, members of the legislature-parliament belonging to the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-Maoist) have held the parliament hostage and stopped its regular business demanding the discussion of the suzerainty of the people in it. Before taking the parliament hostage, Vice-chair of the UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said in the legislature-parliament that the members of the legislature-parliament belonging to the UCPN-Maoist will continue to block the business of the parliament until the Speaker allows them to discuss the suzerainty of the people in the parliament.
Addressing the legislature-parliament Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that the legislature is the supreme institution and the people’s representatives have the rights to discuss the subject matters of the people’s concern. If the Speaker does not allow them to discuss such subject matters then running the business of the legislature has no meaning at all. So, they will not allow running the regular business of the legislature until the Speaker allows them to discuss the suzerainty of the people.
