October 28, 2013: the second largest festival called ‘tihar’ is the festival of lights and flowers. So, the business of flower is an issue at the local market. Flowers are necessary for decorating doors and windows to welcome the goddess of wealth Laksmi.
“Our domestic producers have started growing flower commercially and the local products will meet around 95 percent demand for flowers,” Lok Nath Gaire, President of Floriculture Association of Nepal (FAN) said. Consumers would get the flowers at the last year’s price because large quantities of flowers are produced locally; only a few quantities of flowers would be imported from India this year. “We are almost self-reliant in flower this Tihar,” Gaire said, according to the news in the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
“Unlike in the past years, we do not have to depend on imports to meet the demand for flowers during Tihar. Our domestic productions have been meeting the demand for flower,” Gaire said. He appealed to the consumers to buy domestic products and help promote floriculture in the country.
