Indian Opposition Leader For Republic With Democracy And Federalism In Nepal

August 26, 2013: at an interaction event held in Kathmandu yesterday, leader of the opposition party called Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravi Shankar in a visit to Nepal, has said that India wants inclusive republic, federalism and democratic system in Nepal through the elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA), according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
Ravi Shankar said India wanted such basic characteristics that should be included in the constitution to be drafted from the CA. He has said that India always respects Nepal's sovereignty, integrity and unity. BJP leader Shanker said that democratic Nepal should make the relations stronger.
Stating cultural relations between Nepal and India are above the political relations, he said that support of India should be in various aspects of economic development as per Nepal's desire.
Responding to questions, BJP leader Shankar said that Nepal should make decisions on different issues including whether to adopt Hindu nation or a secular nation and either a presidential system or a prime ministerial system, but basic things such as freedom of judiciary, respect for parliament and democracy should not be missed.
