President Speaks to Gorkhapatra Reporter

March 30, 2010: speaking to the reporter of the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra at his residence in Kathmandu on March 29, 2010, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has said that the political leaders are the change agents and they should jointly take the country to the right political course, complete the writing of a new constitution, as it is the responsibility of all the political leaders; so they should break up the current political deadlock; they should sincerely work for the benefits of the country and should not undermine the people’s aspirations for a federal democratic republic of Nepal. Concerning the demise of Girija Prasad Koirala, the President has said that the country has lost the coordinator; so, all political leaders should work together to institutionalize democracy, republican setup and the people’s sovereignty.
Unfortunately, the same President has violated the basic principles and norms of democracy, republican setup and the people’s sovereignty abusing the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 directly writing a letter to the then army chief and saving his job overriding the decision of the then Prime Minister on firing the army chief.
