By KTM Metro reporter

February 26, 2011: the Constitutional Committee (CC) meeting presided over by Chairman of CC Nilamber Acharya has decided to set up a sub-committee with the top leaders of the political parties as members on Friday, February 25, 2011 for resolving the contentious issues concerning the new constitution, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

The CC has once again assigned the top leaders to resolve the differences. Previously, a taskforce headed by Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda settled 127 contentious issues concerning the new statute.

The sub-committee members are Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda, NC parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel, and senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Nepal and leader of CPN–United Kalpana Rana. The Madheshi political parties have yet to send their representative to the sub-committee.

About 80 unresolved issues are still pending. The sub-committee needs to resolve these issues by mid March if the Constituent Assembly is to promulgate the new constitution on or before May 28, 2011, as the term of the Constituent Assembly expires on this day.
