CoAS Rana Receives Honorary Title Of Indian General

January 8, 2013: Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Gaurav Shumsher Rana received the honorary title of General of the Indian Army from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee at a special function held at the President’s building in New Delhi today, according to the THT ONLINE news of today.
It has been tradition of decorating the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of both Nepal and India with the honorary title of General. So, as soon as a new general is appointed to the CoAS, he receives such an honorary title from the head of state. This is what General Rana received from the Indian President today.
The current government led by Dr Baburam Bhattarai had recommended the head of state President Dr Ram Baran Yadav for appointing General Gaurav Shumsher Rana to the position of CoAS after the retirement of the incumbent CoAS. The president appointed General Rana to the CoAS on August 7, 2012
General Gaurav Shumsher Rana had left Nepal for India for a nine-day official visit on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
