June 11, 2011: Minister for Information and Communications Agni Sapkota yesterday has filed a lawsuit against senior journalist Kanak Mani Dixit at the Supreme Court of Nepal accusing Dixit of the contempt of court because he has published an article on the subject concerning the case filed against the minister on human rights violation on the day of hearing on the case, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes. In the lawsuit filed against Dixit, Minister Sapkota has demanded one-year jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000,
"The article written by Dixit and published in a daily three days ago is based on false facts. That was published on the day in which there was hearing in the court about the case. Clearly, the write-up is aimed at influencing the court. It also misguides the people," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today quotes Raman Shrestha former general secretary of Nepal Bar Association.
The UN and other human rights organizations have strongly objected the appointment of Mr. Agni Sapkota to the minister for information and communication stating Mr. Sapkot has been involved in killing in the past.
The US Embassy in Nepal has denied Mr. Sapkota a visa for visiting USA under the pressure of the international human rights organization because of Mr. Sapkota’s involvement in human rights violation.
