Bhrikuti Paper Factory

KTM Metro Reporter

July 28, 2017

Kathmandu: The then government Prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala presided over had granted Bhrikuti Paper Factory: one of the largest industries in Nepal on lease to the Golcha Organization in the name of privatizing and liberalizing the economy propagated by one of the so-called economists Dr Ram Sharan Mahat in 1992.

China has built this paper mill as a gift to the Nepalese people but the government of Prime Minster Girija Prasad Koirala rather than running it profitably turned it over to the Golcha organization: a private company that would make money regardless of benefits to the country or not.

Not only Prime Minister Koirala did turn over the Bhrikuti Paper Factory but also other China-made Bansbari Leather And Shoes Factory sold to an Indian Company that dismantled all the machineries and took them to India.

The Girija government had let the Kathmandu-Bhaktapur Trolley Bus again China-made dissolved and dismantled the trolley lines and let the busses rot for making room for a private company to flourish.

The news in ‘artha-bazaar’ section of the State-run newspaper “gorkhapatra” has stated today that Bhrikuti Paper Factory has been closed since 2010 (2067), and the laborers that had been working in the Bhrikuti Paper Factory have not paid salaries of NPR 150 million. The news stated that the then government had granted the factory on lease to the Golcha Organization for NPR 170 million.
