Irregularities In Revenue Collection

August 5, 2017

Kathmandu: the Ministry of Land Reform and Management has found the taxes collected on the sale of property in fiscal year 2016 has been twice the taxes collected in fiscal year 2015. So, it was really a pleasant surprise to the ministry people but they don’t want to let it go as it is rather they want to know the reasons for so high collection in the FY 2016 or low in the previous fiscal year.

So, the ministry set up four investigating teams and sent them to different districts in Terai and one in the hill for ascertaining the anomaly of tax revenue. One team has gone to Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, another to Bharatpur and Butwal, and one each to Banke and Kaski to investigate the doubling of the capital income tax collected on sale and purchase of property in FY 2016. It was NPR 2.07 billion in FY 2015 and it increased to NPR 4.62 billion in FY 2016, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated on August 3, 2017.
