A Deal With Maoist Not Anti-nationalistic

Issue 39, September 25, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 23, 2011: Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Baidhya faction of UCPN-Maoist have been saying that the four-point deal the UDMF reached with the UCPN-Maoist was anti-nationalistic, and it would lead Nepal to Sikkimisation means merging Nepal with India. Speaking at the Reporters’ Club Nepal in Kathmandu yesterday, Minister for Information and Communications Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta said, "I challenge the above three forces to prove how the four-point agreement is treacherous and paves the way for the Sikkimisation of Nepal by holding an all-party conference in the Open Theatre," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today quotes the minister.

Minister Gupta has warned of the weakening of the nationality if the Madhesh region: home of almost half the Nepalese population was undermined and underestimated.

He has disclosed that the NC and the CPN-UML have accepted the deal prior to the formation of the current government. "The accusations have come in the form of their pains as they failed to lead the government and have been ousted from power," ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes the minister.

He has also disclosed that the deal the UDMF has reached with the UCPN-Maoist is signed off in the presence of UCPN-Maoist party vice-chairman Mohan Baidhya Kiran and General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal but these guys have been making too much fuss all about it.

Minister Gupta has said that the UDMF has supported the Maoists after it has realized that the NC and the CPN-UML would not be able to complete the peace process.

"The NC, UML and the Baidhya faction have criticized the deal by going beyond the minimum political courtesy and ethic. They could face dire consequences from Madhes for their anti-Madhesi posture," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today quotes Minister Gupta.

Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi has yesterday accused the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of delaying the peace process and the constitution writing ignoring the UCPN-Maoist for long, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. "The two major tasks cannot be completed unless and until the Maoist party takes the leadership," Tripathi said at a round-table discussion on contentious issues of a new constitution held by Constitutional Lawyers’ Forum and Centre for Constitutional Dialogue.
