By KTM Metro Reporter

March 10, 2013: after seven hours of sitting and discussing yesterday, leaders of four major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF could not build a consensus on contentious issues. They have been held on minor issues when they had sort out major issues; for example, the UCPN-Maoist leaders wanted two positions of Lieutenant Colonel and one position of Colonel to be created at the secretariat of the Nepal Army specifically for the Maoist combatants joining the Nepal Army whereas the NC leaders wanted to create those positions but not specifically for the Maoist combatants but for anybody eligible for those positions, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Speaking to the reporters after the meeting held at the Army Integration Secretariat at Nayabaneswor in Kathmandu yesterday, Vice-chairman of CPN-UML Bamdev Gautam said that it has been just like the saying ‘hathi chhir-yeo puchar adkyo’ means major issues have been passed through but manor issues had held on to, as the Maoists were adamant that they would not agree on anything less than the three new army positions to be created were specifically allocated to the Maoist combatants whereas most of the contentious issues have been agreed on; they have almost agreed on the voters’ list, citizenship certificates, and the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Speaking to the reporters at a regular press briefing held at the headquarters of his party yesterday, spokesman for UCPN-Maoist Agni Sapkota told the reporters even though the leaders have been saying that they were very close to building a consensus on forming a new government presided over by the chief justice, it has not been happening, as the second generation leaders of the NC and CPN-UML have been making major issues of the minor things, as they were afraid of going to polls, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Speaking at the Reporters Club in Kathmandu yesterday, visiting Indian political leaders have said that India wants to see Constituent Assembly elections taking place in Nepal at the earliest. They also said that the Nepali's political parties should not waste more time to reach a consensus on the elections. They emphasized that elections are a must for the country's stability, according to the Nepalnews.com news of today.
