Shame on Central Bank of Nepal

Issue 39, September 27, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Common people and traders have been facing the acute shortage of banknotes during the Dashain festival across the country. Traders have been complaining that their businesses have been down by 50% this year during the Dashain festival due to the shortage of cash among the common people.

Common people go to banks with the checks but the banks have no cash, so they return empty handed. Even though they have money in the banks they cannot take out due to the shortage of banknotes.

The government has been a mute spectator of the cash shortage throughout the country. Some political analysts have said that the government is not sensitive to the people’s needs; it cannot even deliver banknotes what such a government will delivery to the people; whether such a government has the moral rights to stay on the job; either the government needs to fire the governor of the Central Bank called Nepal Rastra Bank, or the Finance Minister needs to resign if both of these things are not happening then the Prime Minister should quit, as the government has been a total failure.
