Badi Women’ Protest Rally

Badi Women’ Protest Rally

By KTM Metro Reporter

Badi women from the far western region of Nepal have continued to stage a protest rally in Kathmandu demanding their voices are heard by the administration. Since the last month they have been staging protest rallies asking the government headed by the Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala to meet their 12-point demand that included rehabilitation and guarantee of their representation in the soon-to-be-elected Constituent Assembly. They want that their concerns are included in the new constitution to be crafted by the Constituent Assembly. The Supreme Court of Nepal had ruled that the children of the Badi women should receive the citizenship certificate based on the citizenship of mother. However, the administration has not enforced the ruling so far. Traditionally, Badi women were commercial sex workers.
