By KTM Metro Reporter

January 19, 2012: the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the prices of petroleum products with the approval of the government stating the prices of the petroleum products in India are higher, and the international prices also are high, and NOC has been bearing losses because it has been selling the petroleum products at the prices less than it purchases, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

Petrol has increased from Rs 105 per liter to Rs 115, diesel and kerosene from Rs 76 per liter to Rs 85, cooking gas from Rs 1,325 per 15 kg cylinder to Rs 1,500 and the aviation fuel from Rs 100 per liter to Rs 105. With the price adjustment, the NOC makes a profit of Rs 10 per liter of petrol and makes a loss of Rs 12 per liter of diesel according to the NOC news release.

However, the head of the Consumer Protection Forum has said that the price of petrol is Rs 66 at the Nepal custom but the NOC sells at Rs 115 sucking the consumers to the extent possible.

The rise in prices of petroleum products contributes to the increase in the prices of other products. The public transport fare will increase by 13 percent and the taxi fare will increase in the same percentage and so on.
