Hemp Cultivation In Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
The state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of November 5, 2009 has carried the news reporting on not only the Nepalese farmers but also the Indian farmers taking the land on lease have cultivated hemp plants in some villages of the Udayapur district. It is illegal but neither the local administration nor the police have taken any actions against such an illegal plantation. The local people have afraid of talking about it as they risked their lives in doing so. Some influential political leaders have engaged in this business. So, the administration and the police have to keep quiet even if they see the illegal business flourishing under their noses.
