Registering A Bill To Amend The Constitution

Issue 35, August 28, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 24, 2011: Deputy Prime Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari holding the portfolio of Minister for Finance accompanied by other government ministers has gone to the parliament secretariat and registered the 10th bill to amend the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 at the secretariat at 3:50 pm yesterday for extending the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) for three months, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

The bill is for amending the Article 64 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 to extend the term of the CA for another three months. This will be the third time the term of the CA will be extended if the parliament passes this bill.

Maoist members of the government boycotted the cabinet meeting held to pass the proposed amendment bill saying the government has brought the bill to the cabinet following the decision of the CPN-UML not considering the opinions of other coalition partners.

Small political parties have proposed nine-month extension of the term of the CA while the UCPN-Maoist has proposed for six-month extension in the all-party meeting held yesterday. However, the NC did not participate in the meeting.
