Issue 21, May 20, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

May 17, 2012: The 11th session of the House has started off in the hall of the Constituent Assembly building at Naya Baneshwor, Kathmandu today, after House Speaker Subas Nemwang read out the message sent from the office of the president to the House about summoning the House session by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav following the recommendation of Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.

The House needs to pass the bill on amendment to the Interim Constitution to shorten the procedures for promulgating a new constitution on or before May 27, 2012. The House might need to pass even the extension of the term of the Constituent Assembly if the local news is to believe in.

As soon as the House session started off some of the lawmakers belonging to MPRF-Nepal, and the Vaidya faction of UCPN-Maoist obstructed the session protesting against the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML reaching a deal on 11 provinces stating the deal goes against the ethic-based federalism.

The House Speaker quickly postponed the House session to Friday, May 18, 2012.

Leaders of the UDMF have demanded the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML leaders to reconsider the deal they have reached on 11 provinces. The three parties have held a meeting with UDMF today to ascertain how they could reach a consensus on a number of provinces.

At the same, the UCPN-Maoist and UDMF leaders reached an agreement on 10 provinces instead of 11 provinces previously the three parties had reached according to the fresh local news.

TMDP-N: One of the members of the UDMF alliance has decided to pull out of the Bhattarai government protesting against the 11 provinces the three parties had agreed on.

Some of the Madheshi students have demanded all Madheshi ministers to quit the government in protest against the deal reached on 11 provinces. None of the Madheshi ministers has quit the office so far.
