World Class Vocational Training In Kathmandu

Issue 11, March 11, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 4, 2012: speaking at a press conference held Riyadh, Saudi Arabia yesterday, the visiting Nepalese Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has urged the Saudi government to set up a world-class vocational training institute in Kathmandu to provide Nepalese workers with training and qualifications before they are sent to Saudi Arabia for work according to the news posted on the Arabnews.com

About the details of the proposed vocational training center in Katmandu, the visiting minister has said that the proposed Saudi-funded center would design a market-focused curriculum in consultation with the Saudi business community to ensure its graduates fit in the Saudi market well. He also has said that his country has become one of the largest suppliers of manpower to the Kingdom. Over 600,000 Nepalis are currently working in Saudi Arabia, one of the most popular labor destinations for semi-skilled and unskilled Nepalese workers.

However, Saudi Arabia is yet to open its diplomatic mission in Katmandu. “We earnestly want the Saudi government to open its mission in Nepal, which will help a great deal in improving bilateral relations,” said Pun, “as the absence of a Saudi embassy in Nepal is causing a big hassle to everyone, especially migrant workers.”

Nepal set up its embassy in Saudi Arabia in 1978.
