Shutdown of Schools in Nepal: On July 28, 2009, Nepal Educational Republican Forum (NERF) has called for the shutdown of all schools across the country for three days from Wednesday, July 29, 2009 through Friday, July 31, 2009 demanding the government enforce the deals it has reached with the government in the past. The NERF has announced the shutdown of schools after the talks the representatives of the NERF and the Ministry Education have ended inconclusively on Tuesday, July 28, 2009.

Contempt Of Court: On July 28, 2009, Nava Raj Nyaupane and Bishnu Prasad Bastola have filed a contempt of court case against Vice President Permananda Jha for not following the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal on annulling the oath of office he took in Hindi at the Supreme Court.

Control of Diarrhea: Addressing the parliament, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that the government is preparing a special package for providing the people in the diarrhea-affected areas with an integrated health service. According to the Prime Minister 352 medics have been working at 74 health camps to alleviate the people from diarrhea. However, reports on the death of people from diarrhea have continued to coming in from Jajarkot and Rukum districts.

Katuwal on Retirement Process: On July 28, 2009, local newspapers have reported that Chief of Army Staff Rukmangad Katuwal is taking the traditional one-month off from the job before retirement. Second-in-command Chhatraman Singh Gurung is set to take over the responsibility of the Chief of Army Staff.

Special Security Plan: On July 28, 2009, Home Minister Bhim Rawal has said that the government has made a special security plan on enforcing the law and order and ending the anarchy in the country. Following the plan, the government will deploy an additional 16,000 security personnel in Terai and hills of the Eastern and Mid-western districts to control the ongoing violence and to end the shutdown of highways.

Monsoon Rains: The monsoon rains started on early Sunday, July 26 have made farmers happy but have caused havoc all over Nepal. The low-lying streets have turned into rivers in Kathmandu driving most of the residents out of their homes at low land areas. Floods and landslides have caused the loss of lives and property throughout Nepal.
