Nepal Lost Two Celebrities On One Day

March 5, 2011: novel writer Diamond Shumser Rana at the age of 94 has passed away in Kathmandu on Friday, March 4, 2011. He was a rebel Rana and had participated in the anti-Rana-regime movement in 1940s and early 1950s. Then, he gave up politics for literature and had written a number of novels. His last will was to submit a memorandum to the President and Prime Minister for the timely completion of constitution writing, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Another celebrity former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai at the age of 87 also has passed away in Kathmandu on Friday, March 4, 2011.  He was one of the founding fathers of the political party called Nepali Congress that had spearhead to finish off the Rana regime. Although he was against removing the monarchy from Nepal, his party had participated in voting out the monarchy from Nepal in May 2008. He had been prime minister twice in 1990 and 1999.
