Agreed On Amending Calendar Of Completing Constitution Writing

February 12, 2012: As the leaders of UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML could not resolve all contentious issues as scheduled on Sunday, February 12, 2012 for completing the first draft of a new constitution by February 27, they decided to extend the time for a month for building a consensus on the disputed issues in consultation with the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Subas Chandra Nembang in view of promulgating a new constitution on or before May 27, 2012: the last day of the life of the Constituent Assembly, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

After the meeting of the leaders of UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda told the reporters that leaders of the three major parties attending the meeting agreed on meeting Nembang and asking him for extending time to build a consensus on the new constitution to be promulgated by May 27 as the discussions were focused on achieving this milestone goal in our history.

Senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba told the reporter that the leaders agreed on requesting the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly for giving them more time to build a consensus on the disputed issues.

Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal said that as the leaders of the three major parties were unable to build a consensus on the disputed issues, they agreed to have more time.

At the meeting of leaders of the three major parties, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai proposed to form a national consensus government under his leadership to ease the promulgation of a new constitution. However, other leaders have not take up the issue for discussion, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.
