United Progressive Alliance (UPA) headed by the Indian Congress Party has secured a clear majority in the elections for a parliament in India. Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi has said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will continue to lead a new government. Manmohan Singh in turn has credited Rahul Gandhi, son of Sonia Gandhi for the election victory.

Leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) L K. Advani has acknowledged the defeat of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) headed by his party in the elections and has said that he will not be a leader of the opposition.
