Ruling And Opposition Parties Going Head-on Collision

January 18, 2013: A meeting of the Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA): coalition of the political parties including UCPN-Maoist and UDMF opting for federalism decided to take the alliance to the district level. The meeting held at the Baluwatar official residence of the Prime Minister today evening also confirmed the FDRA's earlier decision to hold a mass rally in Kathmandu on January 30. Spokesman for the FDRA Prem Bahadur Singh said that the district committees of FDRA would comprise the district chiefs of the partner parties, according to the news on THT ONLINE and nepalnews.com today.
The Youth Association Nepal (YAN) of CPN-UML has announced its protest events to topple the Dr Baburam Bhattarai-led government starting on January 20 and ending on January 28. The first thing the YAN would do is to submit the reports on human rights, press freedom and crimes against humanity on Sunday, January 20, 2013, then draw attention to the price rise on January 23 after the Prime minister Bhattarai took over, to protest against Violence Against Women on January 27, and finally perform funeral rites to Prime Minister Bhattarai, according to THT ONLINE of today.
Blaming the deep division between political parties on federalism for failure to promulgate the constitution, Vice-chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Brikhesh Chandra Lal said, “Nepali Congress and CPN-UML do not favor federalism. Therefore, it is time we tell the public who is right and who is wrong on federalism.” “We are not afraid of the opposition’s movement. They have nothing to tell the public, except misguide them on federalism, therefore, we need to caution people against their ploy,” Lal said, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of January 17, 2013.
