Prime Minister’s Iran Visit Put On Hold: Says International Community
By KTM Metro Reporter
August 23, 2012: the international community based in Kathmandu has suggested Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai to put on hold his planned visit to Iran to attend the 16th Non-aligned Movement Summit scheduled for August 26-31, 2012, and send someone of lower level, as Iran has been sponsoring terrorism, and to go to Iran means accepting the state-sponsored terrorism.
However, the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have put the counter argument to the members of the international community stating Prime Minister was not going to Iran for a bilateral business but going to attend the NAM as the founder member. It has been tradition for Nepal to attend any NAM summits as a founder member, according to the Nepalese media reports.
According to the previously stated plan, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was leading a 20-member team to Iran on August 29, 2012, and deliver a speech there. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also set to attend the NAM in Iran.
Israel has warned UN General Secretary Ban Ki moon of Iran using the NAM as a political platform to justify its nuclear program, and its state-sponsored terrorism.
