Issue 50, December 14, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 07, 2008, speaking at the second general assembly meeting of Nepal Transportation Entrepreneurs Association in Chitwan, Prime Minister Prachanda said that President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala has been obstructing the peace process putting forward conditions after conditions going against the 12-point understanding, other agreements and Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 since the Maoist party got the majority seats in the Constituent Assembly; it would be unfortunate for the country if the peace process would be unsuccessful, and a new constitution could not be crafted; Nepali Congress and its president would be responsible for it.

The Prime Minister also said that if the Maoists were not allowed to work properly and would not be able to achieve concrete results by the end of December they would go to the people and initiate a revolution. However, he said that nobody would be able to tear down his government.

Speaking at the public mass meeting held by the Nepali Congress Party in different towns of Southern Nepal for creating awareness of the authoritarian rule of the Maoist-led government, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala had been telling the public that the Maoists had broken the agreement on the politics of consensus, and his party and he would not allow the Government the integration of the Maoists’ combatants into the Nepali Army. Maoists say that it is a part of the peace process.

President Koirala also had been telling the public that all democratic parties needed to form a united force to fight against the authoritarian rule. He had approached President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher Rana, and President of Rastriya Janashakti Party Surya Bahadur Thapa for forming a united alliance of democrats.

Surya Bahadur Thapa had been calling all democrats for uniting against any authoritarian rule. Now, Girija Prasad Koirala has picked up the call of Surya Bahadur. However, Pashupati Shumsher and Surya Bahadur have not publicly responded to the call of Girija Prasad Koirala.
