Holding Elections To Prime Minister and Nepalese Politics

Issue 41, October 10, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 6, 2010: Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that NC leaders have made the Nepalese politics good for laugh in the international arena letting its single candidate for a Prime Minister to run in the election even after defeat in the several rounds of elections.

In the tenth round of election held today, Mr. Ram Chandra Poudel has received only 109 votes whereas he needs more than 300 votes to get elected. Kudos to Mr. Poudel for his stamina to run; he is still running a sole marathon in the field of election to a New Prime Minister. Other candidates tired of running the races have already gave up the races. However, Mr. Poudel is determined to run no matter what happens to the country and the people. That is the traits of the NC leaders.

Leaders of the three major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML have sat together to break the election deadlock but they have not been able to do so as long as Mr. Poudel is in the race for the office of Prime Ministerial. Mr. Poudel is doing so as if he will never get the second chance of running for the office of Prime Minister.

Newly elected General Secretary of NC Prakash Man Singh has said that his party is holding the Prime ministerial election as a bargaining chip with the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist. Newly elected central committee member of NC Arjun Narsingh KC has said that his party will pull out the candidate for the office of Prime Minister if the UCPN-Maoist returns the property seized by the Maoists. The NC leaders have been more interested in getting back their property than in getting the country out of the political mess. They can be more effective to use the legal system to get back the property rather than the political tool they have used ineffectively so far.

One of the Vice-chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that the condition set by the NC leaders to withdraw its candidate for Prime Minister is unacceptable to his party, so, the deadlock in forming a new government will continue. He has also blamed the Speaker for failing in using his prerogative to ask the single candidate for the office of Prime Minister to stop running for the race when he cannot win the required votes even after several rounds of the elections.

At the same time, Secretary of Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party and CA member Sunil Prajapati has said that the foreign interference in the Nepalese politics has deadlocked the election to a new Prime minister, he has also blamed the leaders of the major political parties for causing the current political mess.
