Chitwan District’s Literacy Rate Reached 82 Percent

July 19, 2013: The District Education Office (DEO) Chitwan has reported that the literacy rate of the district has reached 82 per cent, however, the National Census of 2011 has only 76.97 per cent, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
At a yearly review event held yesterday, the DEO made the data public even though it contradicted with the national census. The DEO has said that the national census has revealed only 76.97 per cent population as literate in the district but literacy rate has increased due to the literacy classes it has conducted.
Now the literacy rate stands at 82 per cent including 86 per cent male and 78 per cent female. In the fiscal year 2011 only 39,141 males and 21,124 females out of total 579,984 people of the district were literate. The DEO has targeted to literate 15,571 persons including 11,658 females and 3,913 males in this fiscal year. According to the information provided by the DEO, a total of 44,694 persons including 27,483 women and 17,211 men are still illiterate.
The DEO invested Rs 9, 000,000 in the literacy campaign in the district, said Raj Kumar Shrestha, General Secretary to the DEO.
