Annual Remittance Exceeds One Billion Dollars

Speaking at a seminar on 'Foreign Employment, Remittances and Foreign Policy', held by the Institute of Foreign Affairs, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sahana Pradhan said many Nepalese have been going abroad in search of better opportunities, higher education, foreign employment and also as immigrants. Migration and foreign employment have become a worldwide phenomenon in the globalize-world. She further said that the annual remittance received through the formal channel has already exceeded one billion US dollars; so, the government was putting high emphasis on foreign employment as an alternative source of employment for the Nepalese as the remittance becoming a lifeline of the Nepalese economy according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of January 28, 2008.
