KTM Metro reporter

Kathmandu, May 20, 2016: The government of Nepal is holding the anniversary of Lord Buddha with especial emphasis on the birth and enlightenment of Buddha not only of Shakyamuni Gautam Buddha but also other less known Buddhas, too has been nowhere but in Nepal.

The government has been holding a two-day international Buddhist conference on the birth and enlightenment of Buddhas in Kathmandu on May 19 and 20, 2016. Then, on the full moon day called Buddha purnima, the government is holding extraordinary festivities in Lumbini where Buddhas were born.

Inaugurating the International Buddhists Conference in Kathmandu on May 19, 2016, Prime Minister KP Oli has said that Buddha is not only the light of Asia but also the light of the world. He also has said that the government has aimed at making Lumbini: the international Buddhist Study Center.

Many State dignitaries, Buddhist scholars, Buddhist monks and other people interested in Buddha are invited to participate in celebrating the 2560th Anniversary Of Buddha in Lumbini: the birth place of lord Buddha, and in Kathmandu, too.

Nepalese have placed especial emphasis on marking this 2560th Anniversary Of Buddha to counter the Indian claim Buddha was born in India, he was enlightened in India and so on, and to present the real facts about Buddha was born in Lumbini, he got enlightenment there otherwise he would not have quit the royal palace, to the international arena. He did not declare that he was enlightenment at the time of quitting the palace because it was not the right moment to do so.

A large number of Chinese Buddhists is anticipated to participate in the celebration of the 2560th Anniversary of Buddha in Nepal. However, India has been keeping low profile in celebrating the anniversary.
