Left Parties Withdrew Support for Indian Government
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On the pretext of the Indian government not being transparent over a nuclear deal with the US, the left parties submitted a memorandum to the President of India mentioning they no longer support the government, and requested the president for convening a session of the parliament so that the ruling party could face a vote of confidence to prove its majority.
With the left pulling out of the support for the government, it has only 226 members in the 543-seat parliament, a short of 46 seats for a majority in the parliament. However, it would not lead the government to collapse and early elections, as the regional party called Samajwadi Party, and several other smaller parties might support the government compensating for the loss of the left parties’ support.
