Marking 17th Anniversary Of People’s War

Issue 08, February 19, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 13, 2012: the UCPN-Maoist has held a huge rally at Tundikhel: heart of Kathmandu today to mark the 17th anniversary of the People’s War. Leaders of the UCPN-Maoist addressed the rally.

Speaking at the rally Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that his party would revolt if a conspiracy prevails to destroy the peace process that his party and government have been seriously taking up to complete; as his party had fought against the old order, any old constitution was simply unacceptable to his party.

Concerning the possibility of the split of his party, Prachanda has said that his party will not split due to the differences of opinions in the party, as they are quite natural.

Addressing the same rally, Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya Kiran also has said that debate and discussion are quite common in the party but such discussions will not lead the party to split.

In 1996, on this day, the Maoists had launched the People’s War that had ended in 2006 after signing the Comprehensive Peace Accord with the then-interim government led by Girija Prasad Koirala. The Maoists had fought a decade-long war that had led Nepal to a republic after ending the centuries old monarchy in 2008.
