Issue 49, December 8, 2013

By KTM metro Reporter

December 2, 2013: today, Nepalis have been sprinkling seven seeds in the names of the deceased loved ones at Mrigasthali of the Slesmantak Forest in the Pashupati area.

Every year on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight of Mangsir (November-December), spouses, sons and daughters of deceased people sprinkle seven seeds starting the five-faced Ganesh and then going along the prescribed routes to different deities, and when they reach the deaf Ganesh they shake him and loudly tell in his ear to rely the messages they have come to sprinkle seven seeds.

Some people go to the Slesmantak forest on the eve of the day of sprinkling seven seeds, spend overnight there, and the next day, they take holy dip in the waters of Bagmati River and then around to sprinkle seven seeds. A unique religious festival is held at the Slesmantak forest on this night.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust has arranged for lighting lamps by the priests at the Pashupati Area at the price of Rs 1,000 for those that could not come and stay overnight at the Slesmantak forest.
