CPN-UML for 15 states

Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) have come up with an idea of making Nepal a federal republic of 15 states. The proposed federal states are 1) Karnali, 2) Doti, 3) Buran or Tharuhat, 4) Gandak or Magarat, 5) Lumbini, 6) Narayani, 7) Kendra, 8) Tamuwan or Lhosar, 9) Langtang or Tamsaling, 10) Kathmandu or Newa, 11) Simraounj or Mithila, 12) Kirat or Arun, 13) Birat or Mechi, 14) Koshi Pradesh and 15) Tamor or Limbuwan according to the news posted on the online ‘The Rising Nepal’ of August 13, 2008. Coordinator of CPN-UML State Restructuring Taskforce and Standing Committee Member, Bam Dev Gautam said that the CPN-UML proposed these federal states considering the multiethnic, multilingual, multicultural, multi-religious and diverse geographical features of the country.
