On Wednesday, February 25, 2009, the US Department of State released its annual report on human rights in Washington, DC. The report stated that members of the Nepal Police (NP) and Armed Police Force (APF) occasionally used excessive and lethal force in response to continued demonstrations throughout the country. The Maoists, the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL), and members of other small, often ethnically based armed groups committed numerous grave human rights abuses during the year 2008.

On February 26, 2009, referring to the anticipated rally of the Tibetan exiles in Nepal on the occasion of the anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against the Chinese rule on March 10, Prime Minister Prachanda assured the delegation headed by Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue of China of not allowing any activities against China in Nepal. At the same time, the Chinese authorities have closed the Tibetan side of the Sagarmatha for tourists.

On Thursday, February 26, 2009, Prime Minister Prachanda opened the Narayanhiti Museum cutting a ribbon at the main gate to the Narayanhiti Museum. The museum will be opened to public starting on Friday, February 27, 2009.
