Eleven DIGs Promoted To AIGs

KTM Metro Reporter

August 3, 2017

Kathmandu: The cabinet meeting held yesterday decided to promote 11 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) of Nepal Police to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG).

The promoted DIGs are Bam Bahadur Bhandari, Jaya Bahadur Chand, Devendra Subedi, Pashupati Upadhyay, Keshari Raj Ghimire, Madhav Prasad Joshi, Bijay Lal Kayastha, Kamal Singh Bam, Mingmar Lama, Rana Bahadur Chand and Bijay Kumar Bhatta.

Former Prime Minister Prachanda when he presided over the previous coalition government of NC and Maoist-Center had promoted DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand to IGP apparently under the pressure of the coalition partner also President of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba. However, Chand’s rival DIG Nawaraj Silwal went to the Supreme Court of Nepal to appeal against the decision, and the Supreme Court repealed the promotion of Chand provoking strong reactions from the lawmakers and eventually leading to the motion to impeach the then Chef Justice Sushil Karki causing political and judicial chaos.

Obviously, the police administration has left out DIG Nawaraj Silwal for promotion to the AIG, as his case is still pending at the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, DIG Nawaraj Silwal neither got the promotion to the IGP as he wanted nor to the AIG.
