UNMIN provides Government With Details Of PLA

October 11, 2010: The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) on Sunday, October 10, 2010 has completed the process of providing the government with the information on the Maoist army personnel ‘The Rising Nepal’ writes quoting the press release of the UNMIN that has said it has provided the details of the Maoist combatants to Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction following the request of the Special Committee for the Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of Maoist army personnel.
The government has requested the UNMIN to provide the details of the Maoist combatants following the instructions from the Special Committee. On September 13, 2010, the UCPN-Maoist has agreed to share the details of 19,602 combatants with the government. UNMIN has started sharing the details of the Maoist army personnel from last Thursday.
In the statement, the UNMIN has said that it has released the data following the necessary agreement of the parties. "I view that agreement as another positive step in the peace process," the statement has said quoting the UNMIN Chief and Representative of the Secretary-General Karin Landgren.
"With fewer than 100 days remaining in UNMIN’s mandate, it is critical for the parties to maintain the momentum and find the way forward on the issue of integration and rehabilitation. The mission will continue to do all that it can to lend its expertise and support to the process," she said in the statement.
"UNMIN had collected the data as part of its activities related to the monitoring of the management of arms and armies. The Mission remains committed to handling this personnel data with appropriate confidentiality, under the terms of the Arms Monitoring Agreement" the statement has said.
Speaking at a function held in Banepa today, one of Vice-chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that possibility of the conflict between the national army and the Maoist fighters is high if the peace process is not completed while the UNMIN is still in Nepal, ‘The Himalayan Times’ writes.
Speaking at a function held to congratulate the newly elected office bearers of the All Nepal National Free Students' Union (ANNFSU) at the central office of CPN-UML Balkhu, today, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that possibility of the counter-revolution is there if the Constituent Assembly fails to promulgate a new constitution on time, ‘The Himalayan Time’ writes quoting the state news agency called RSS.
