Protest Rallies Across Nepal To Remove Government

February 2, 2013: NC and CPN-UML including their allies have started off the so-called protest movement hurricane yesterday. NC and CPN-UML leaders flew to different cities and towns to speak at the protest rallies. They have said that they are doing so to remove the current government but they don’t say the reasons for removing the current except for grabbing power.
NC, CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Janashakti Party among other opposition parties are holding protest rallies in major cities and towns against the government stating it as the anti-people, anti-national and totalitarian. NC President Sushil Koirala is to address the protest rally in Nepalgung, leader Sher Bahadur Deuba in Biratnagar, Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel in Pokhara, Treasurer Chitra Lekha Yadav in Bhairahawa, central member Dr Ram Saran Mahat in Dhangadhi and Arjun Prasad Joshi in Baglung, according to THT ONLINE of Janaury 31, 2013.
Talking to the reporters at the Biratnagar Airport on January 31, 2013, senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the nine opposition parties would oust the government that has lost its legitimacy after failing to hold elections; consequently, there is no alternative to a national consensus government; so, the present government should be removed as soon as possible, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com.
Talking to media persons at Biratnagar Airport on January 31, 2013, NC leader Sujata Koirala urged the NC leaders and other political parties to settle the current constitutional and political crisis in a peaceful way. She said that the current government would not be toppled through the street protest declared by the opposition parties as it was against the 12-point deal reached between the then seven political parties and the CPN-Maoist in New Delhi, India. The Former Minister for Foreign Affairs Koirala said that the current protest would invite confrontation among the parties and that the political parties should follow the politics of consensus and collaboration, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com of January 31, 2013.
Speaking at a press conference held in Ilam on January 31, 2013, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal warned of toppling the UCPN-Maoist-led government through the street protests. "The street protest is a must," said Khanal. "The great achievements of the democratic system were achieved through the street protests in the past and it is possible today as well," according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com of January 31, 2013.
