Issue 06, February 7, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On February 5, 2010, speaking at the reporter’s club in Kathmandu, Deputy Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidya ‘Kiran’ has said much to the dislike of the Prime Minister that the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) is made up of the top leaders of three parties and it is above all political leaders; so, it can change a government it wants to break the current political deadlock and pave the way for completing the peace process and writing of a new constitution, it does not mean it will change a current government immediately. However, he has also said that a national government under the leadership of his party is the need for writing a new constitution and completing the peace process. He has also charged the current government of not being able to break the political deadlock and work on the consensus politics, so it is bound to collapse.

Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has been saying that the HLPM cannot change his government, and it is for assisting the government in timely completing the writing of a new constitution. He has also warned his own party colleagues of they might upset the peace process and writing of a new constitution if they engage in trying to topple his government.
