By KTM Metro Reporter

June 15, 2010: Chinese tourists have drastically increased in Nepal because of the recent income boom of the Chinese people. The number of Chinese visitors has increased to 185.97 percent in Nepal. Around 19,000 Chinese tourists visited Nepal in 2009 according to the Xinhua news. Currently, four Chinese airlines including China Eastern Airlines run flights to Nepal. Nepal is anticipating 100,000 visitors from China in the Nepal Tourism Year 2011

In addition, tourist arrivals from newly developed countries such as South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia have increased to 68.40 percent, 164.26 percent, 83.48 percent and 46.32 percent respectively.

The increase in the East Asian visitors in Nepal is attributed to their higher incomes, their desire to visit the birthplace of Lord Buddha and better air links.
