Kailali Continues To Experience Shutdown

The Kailali district and other adjoining districts have been experiencing the shutdown after the armed police of Home Minister Bhim Rawal fired live ammunition on the unarmed landless people staying on in the fallow land killing five of them on Friday, December 4, 2009. The landless people have been shutting down the area protesting the killing of unarmed people by the armed police with the most modern firearms, and demanding strong actions against he culprit including the Home Minister.
Human Rights Organizations have condemned the killing of unarmed people by the police. They have asked the government to hold investigation into the killing of unarmed people by the heavily armed police force, and punish the responsible police for the killing.
However, on Sunday, December 6, 2009, speaking at the press briefing about the killing of some people in the Kailali district, Home Minister Bhim Rawal has appreciated the police actions in the Kailali district in other words appreciated the killing of the unarmed people after a policeman died in the confrontation with the landless people. Some rights organization members have said that the Home Minister needs to be tried at the International Criminal Court for killing unarmed people by the heavily armed police force in the Kailali district.
